Special Resin Catalyst for MTBE Synthesis

The neo-model D005-II MTBE resin catalyst adopts suspension polymerization technology to crosslink styrene and divinylbenzene, while adding a pore-forming agent to synthesize the white ball matrix of chemical channels. Such primary process is followed by subsequent processes of structural stabilization, sulfonation, rinsing, screening and the like to accomplish the finished product of strong acid resin catalyst of large pores.

As the upgraded model of D005 resin catalyst, D005-II not only keeps its original advantages but also increases the exchange capacity by 10%, and significantly improves its catalytic activity and anti-pollution capability. In application, D005-II is often used to catalyze the isobutylene and methanol as the liquefied natural gas(LNG) passes through MTBE unit, in order to undergo etherification reaction to synthesize methyl tert-butyl ether to blend the gasoline components as unleaded.

In addition to its stable catalytic performance, D005-II is also featured for its excellent activity and selectivity, high conversion rate and long service life. To be specific:

  1. One ton D005-II can produce MTBE 4000-8000 tons.
  2. The single-pass conversion rate of isobutylene reaches 95% while its catalytic distillation conversion rate reaches up to 99.5%.
  3. Catalytic selectivity to outcome MTBE is up to 98.5%.
  4. D005-II’s resistance to pollution can reach 5ppm.
  5. D005-II’s adaptability to alkadiene is up to 3000ppm.

***Diolefins and oligomers or incomplete polymers often generate macromolecular products that will very likely to pollute resin by blocking its pores; The special structured large pore sizes of D005-II can highly adapt to alkadiene so that catalyst’s channels are not impeded and adsorption can take effect.
Evidently, the overall catalytic performance of D005-II has met the international advance level, which is equivalent to Amberlyst-35.
